The announcements of both the release date and Day One Game Pass access were made in a blog post on the official SEGA website. The official website says that players will be venturing into the Realm of Chaos, and that Kislev and Cathay will stand against Chaos.SEGA has announced the official release date for their highly-anticipated RTS game Total War: Warhammer III as well as confirmed that the title will be arriving on Game Pass on PC on Day One. Some media previews mention several races taking advantage of the power of a "dying god" while others mention an "ancient figure" seeking "power." After this point, players who don't already own the race will have to buy this race separately. In addition, there will be another race (as yet unannounced) playable, which will be free for players who either 1) preorder the game, or 2) buy the game within the first week after release. There will be 9 playable legendary lords (special named characters who lead factions). CA partnered with Games Workshop to turn Cathay into a fully fleshed out race, with complete lore, units etc.

Grand Cathay - two playable Legendary Lords are Miao Ying, leading the Northern Provinces, and Zhao Ming leading the Eastern Provinces.

The two playable Legendary Lords being Katarin Bokha leading the Ice Court, and Kostaltyn leading the Great Orthodoxy.

Kislev - featuring many new units from Warhammer: The Old World.

Khorne - the playable Legendary lord being Skarbrand leading the Exiles of Khorne.

Tzeentch - the playable legendary lord is Kairos Fateweaver leading the Oracles of Tzeentch.

Additionally, owners of previous games (and DLC) will find all the content they own playable in multiplayer in the third game.

However, players who own all 3 games will gain access to an massive combined campaign in Total War: Warhammer III, where all content from all 3 games will be playable.

It will be a standalone title, with its own self-contained campaign.

It will feature turn-based strategy gameplay on the campaign map, plus real-time strategy gameplay during battles.

Like previous titles in the series, it will be set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe, roughly around the reign of Karl Franz.

It was originally announced for release in 2021, but has been delayed until early 2022.
